Every year the 9th grade students work on their “Family Roots” project. This is a long project lasting several months. In the first half, they research their family history, get to know the previous generations and learn to build a family tree. A short research assignment is added to the study of family history. The student chooses one detail in a family story, and through reading various sources they write about it from a historical or cultural point of view which places the specific story within the broad context in which it took place.
The entire work process allows building a renewed acquaintance with their family from the angle of a teenage girl, dealing with a long-term project that requires thinking and planning, and using the tools of research work. At the end of the project, a festive evening is held with the parents and families.
